The Christmas spirit was really on show in Letchworth Garden City on Saturday, despite all that Storm Bert could throw at the town.Â
The Communities of the First Garden City came out in force to celebrate the start of the festive season and see the Christmas Lights switched on. Ignoring the wind and rain, people of all ages came into the town centre to enjoy all the excellent food, drink and entertainment on offer from all the town centre shops and more.Â
Entertainment ranged from Letchworth brass band to The Grinch, Jack of Frost stilt walkers, film characters and even a super sized illuminated barn owl. The event reached a crescendo with the Harpenden Pipe Band enthralling the crowds with another superb display, before the wonderful Auntie Kitty had the honour of turning on the Christmas Lights.Â
Richard Harbon, who manages the BID team who put the event on said, ‘What a wonderful day for our brilliant garden city. People from all across Letchworth and surrounding areas came into the town centre to help celebrate Christmas and everything our town has to offer. Thank you to each and everyone who came out to support the event and the town on Saturday. It looked like everyone had a brilliant day. Happy Christmas.â
