The sun shone on Broadway Gardens as a record number of runners, families and supporters gathered for the much-anticipated Letchworth 5K, 1 Mile & Fun Run. The event proved to be a huge success with a record number of runners taking part, celebrating everything that makes Letchworth special – community spirit, creativity and personal achievements.
With roads closed in the town centre and around the iconic Broadway Gardens, participants had a rare opportunity to run through the heart of the town in a safe and scenic setting. The atmosphere was electric, with crowds cheering, music playing and smiles all around.
This year’s event saw a fantastic turnout from families, with many children and parents taking part together in the 1 Mile & Fun Run. The fancy dress competition brought an extra splash of colour and fun, with everything from superheroes to vegetables spotted on the course.
For more serious runners, the day was just as rewarding. A number of personal bests were set across both the 5K and 1 Mile events, demonstrating the determination and spirit of our local running community. Course records were broken with Callum Webb of Higham Harriers setting a new 1 Mile course record time of 4:52 and Rhia Botha of North Herts Road Runners matching the 1 Mile course female record time of 5:47.
Every finisher received a beautiful, eco-friendly medal, made from recycled paper and embedded with wildflower seeds – a thoughtful touch designed in collaboration with John O’Connor to promote sustainability and celebrate Letchworth’s green heritage.

The Letchworth 5K isn’t just a race, it’s a celebration of community and fitness combined. Watching all those families take part and seeing children running through the town centre was just magical.”
