Town Gardeners Transform Wilderness Into Nature Area​

A team of volunteers from Letchworth Garden City have been putting the final touches to a nature area adjacent to the war memorial in the town centre. 

What was once a large dumping ground for rubbish and vegetation is now transformed into a beautiful nature area with flourishing plants and trees. 

Working with partners from the BID, Heritage Foundation, John O’Connor and GTR, the volunteers, who can normally be found working on planters and borders across the town centre, removed over 3 tonnes of waste, dead trees and rubbish, before setting about planting over 700 bulbs and other plants. The area is now fitting for the first Garden City and a tranquil location in a busy part of the town.

BID Manager, Richard Harbon said, “The team of volunteers have been fantastic. This area was a waste land for years. Everyone has really come together to transform the area into an area fit for the location next to our war memorial. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen.”

Letchworth Town Gardeners meet every Monday at 10am at the planters between the Broadway Cinema and The Old Town Hall.
